Home / Lizano: A Costa Rican Sauce with Over 100 Years of Tradition

Our story

A little taste of Costa Rica.

A familiar green bottle, a vegetable-and-spice recipe, and more than a century at the table.

Food that feels
like home.

Lizano is a Costa Rican classic. The sauce brings vegetables and spices together in a savory, gently sweet, tangy flavor, used both in cooking and at the table.

Our favorite place to begin is a simple plate of rice and beans. From there, try a little with eggs, vegetables, tamales, or a grilled meal.

More than a hundred years of flavor

Unilever describes Lizano as a sauce with more than 100 years of tradition, closely connected with Costa Rican cooking. Gallo pinto is one of its best-known companions, but the bottle also finds a place in marinades and everyday seasoning.

For people who know Costa Rica, the flavor can recall a shared breakfast or a favorite meal. For a first-time cook, it offers an easy place to start: add a little, taste, and make it part of food you already enjoy.

Make room at your table

You do not need a complicated recipe to get started. Cook rice and beans, set out a few simple sides, and let everyone add a little sauce to their own plate.
